As a student affairs practitioner, I’m passionate about promoting the welfare and safety of our children. Child abuse is a pervasive issue that affects millions of children worldwide, leaving them with physical, emotional, and psychological scars that can last a lifetime. It’s our collective responsibility to recognize the signs of child abuse and take action to prevent it.
What is Child Abuse?
Child abuse, also known as child maltreatment, refers to any form of physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, neglect, or exploitation that harms or threatens to harm a child’s physical or emotional well-being. Child abuse can occur in various settings, including homes, schools, communities, and online platforms.
Examples of Child Abuse:
1. Physical Abuse: Inflicting physical harm or injury, such as hitting, beating, kicking, or burning.
2. Emotional Abuse: Verbal or non-verbal behavior that belittles, humiliates, or rejects a child, causing emotional distress.
3. Sexual Abuse: Engaging in sexual activities with a child, including touching, fondling, or exploitation through pornography or prostitution.
4. Neglect: Failing to provide basic needs, such as food, shelter, clothing, hygiene, or medical care.
5. Child Labor: Forcing children to work in hazardous conditions, depriving them of education and childhood.
6. Street Hawking: Sending children to sell goods on the streets, exposing them to risks and dangers.
7. Bullying: Repeatedly subjecting a child to physical, verbal, or psychological aggression.
Consequences of Child Abuse:

Protecting Children’s Rights:
